Ready to start a small business? Charlotte might just be the best place for you.

To find the best and worst places to start a small business, LendingTree looked at nine metrics based on subways and states. These included the proportion of independent residents in addition to unemployment rates. The study also included statistics on one-year business survival rates in America’s 100 largest subways by population.

Overall, North Carolina offers the best places to start a small business. If you live in Texas, Austin was # 2 on the list. According to Lending Tree, each of the top 10 southern states has a one-year business survival rate of at least 78%.
